Much like New York, London is one of those magical cities where luxury reigns supreme. There’s definitely no shortage of luxurious accommodations to choose from around the city, but if you’re looking for top notch luxury in a boutique package, look no further than The Wellesley.
Overlooking the Royal Hyde Park amidst the glamour of the Knightsbridge district, the grandeur of The Wellesley begins from the minute you walk through the door. The marble gilded reception area is only a taste of what guests have in store during their stay.
The rooms pay homage to the building’s 1920’s origin, but don’t expect to see outdated decor. Each of the 19 suites and 17 bedrooms are outfitted in the finest contemporary designs that could be straight of a magazine. While I have to say that the rooms are not that spacious (they are more spacious in the suites and penthouse, naturally), the bright, yet neutral tones and reflective surfaces help give the rooms a larger feel.
The ensuite bathroom is finished in marble and comes with Hermès amenities for the win! As if bathing with Hermès wasn’t enough, each room also includes an interactive Samsung tablet, complimentary high speed wi-fi and 24-hour butler service.
At some point you might want to eat or have a drink, and The Wellesley has you covered there as well. Guests can relax in two outdoor cigar terraces, and The Crystal Bar showcases a wall of the finest whiskies and Cognacs. The Oval Restaurant serves up seasonal Italian dishes, while the Jazz Lounge presents LIVE at The Wellesley, an evening of fine dining and live music at night, and tradition English Afternoon Tea by day. My only gripe with the dining options is that there weren’t more, well, options. I love Italian food and the chef has definitely created an amazing menu, but still I would’ve liked more variety.
The one thing The Wellesley lacks, however, is a spa and as someone who loves to roll out of bed and onto a massage table, this breaks my heart. The hotel does offer a Pure Indulgence package that includes services at the nearby Grace Belgravia. Sadly the spa is exclusive to women so no couple’s massages with a boyfriend or hubby.
If the thought of not having a spa on site has you feeling down, I assure you the uber bougieness of my favorite amenity during my stay, will perk you right up. A hotel as grand as The Wellesley is of course situated minutes from the finest London has to offer, like the legendary Harrods and Harvey Nichols, and iconic buildings and cultural attractions such as the Royal Albert Hall, Buckingham Palace and the British Museum. So naturally it offers guests complimentary Rolls-Royce service anywhere within a 1.5 mile radius of the hotel! Simply contact the amazing concierge team and they will ensure that you arrive to your destination in style.
Overall, between the location, top notch amenities and exceptional service, The Wellesley is a great choice for a luxurious boutique hotel stay in London and definitely Hotel Whisperer approved.
