A new year means a new set of hotel openings for luxury hotel lovers everywhere to swoon and salivate over. As someone who lives and breathes luxury hotels, I keep a spreadsheet full of properties I know I have to keep my eye on, and trust me the list is long! However this year only a select few made it on to my #WhisperWorthy list of 2016’s hottest and most anticipated hotel openings. These are the hotels that have completely grasped my attention, and if I want to stay there, you know you’ll want to stay there too. Let’s take a walk down hotel luxe lane shall we…
Canyon Ranch Wellness Resort at Kaplankaya – Kaplankaya, Turkey
Scheduled to open in July 2016, the Canyon Ranch Wellness Resort at Kaplankaya will be the first international resort from the American life-enhancement brand. With popular locations in Arizona and Massachusetts, Canyon Ranch will be bringing their signature revitalizing, reinvigorating and refreshing luxury to the blue coves and cypress-lined hillsides of the Turkish Riviera.
Canyon Ranch’s 141-room property will feature an expansive 107,500-square-foot spa offering everything from Eastern and Western medical practices to traditional Turkish hammam treatments. The resort will also offer two restaurants, including an alfresco Mediterranean venue overlooking the sea.
A stay at Canyon Ranch and a visit to the Turkish coast have been on my travel wish list forever, this hotel opening might just be a way to combine the two. *fingers crossed*
Park Hyatt St. Kitts – Saint Kitts and Nevis
Saint Kitts and Nevis has to be one of the most underrated islands in the Caribbean, and I’m so excited that in 2016 the world will get a chance to experience its serene beauty with the opening of the Park Hyatt St. Kitts.
There’s no exact opening date yet (whispers say November), but The Park Hyatt St. Kitts will be located within the Christophe Harbour development on Banana Bay, situated on a secluded area offering white-sand beaches and crystal-clear waters, overlooking The Narrows, a strait separating St. Kitts and the volcanic island of Nevis. Features will include 125 luxurious rooms, delicious restaurants, and several pools.
Rosewood Phuket – Thailand
Thailand is one location that was not in dire need of another luxury property, but when that luxury property is a new Rosewood, you make room. Making its first Asian debut, Rosewood Hotels is set to open the Rosewood Phuket sometime in late 2016.
Located on the exquisite and secluded Emerald Bay, the resort’s design will showcase subtle Thai influences that blend organically into the hillside forest landscape. Uninterrupted views of the Andaman Sea will be visible from the 71 spacious villas and 32 residences. The Rosewood Phuket will also boast four restaurants, a Sense spa, four swimming pools, a health club with gymnasium, a yoga pavilion, a sea sports pavilion and a tennis court.
As if you needed another reason to go to Phuket. *swoon*
Four Seasons New York Downtown – Tribeca, New York
A Four Seasons in New York City might not be much to swoon about, especially since the city already has one. However, a Four Seasons opening in trendy Tribeca is! With all the devastation the area has gone through over the last decade +, this opening is just proof that the Lower Manhattan/Tribeca area’s revitalization is here to stay.
Set to open in the Tribeca neighborhood this summer, a block from the World Trade Center and minutes from Soho and Wall Street, the Four Seasons Downtown will be located within the first 22 floors of Robert A.M. Stern’s glistening 82-story 30 Park Place tower, the 185-room hotel will feature contemporary interiors by the New York–based design firm Yabu Pushelberg; a 75-foot indoor swimming pool; a spa; and a steakhouse by Wolfgang Puck. Four Seasons will also operate 157 residences in the tower, each offering 11-foot ceilings, formal entry foyers, and light-filled living spaces.
Soneva Jani – Maldives
Listen, if you think you know luxury and haven’t stayed at a Soneva property…think again. This past October I had the pleasure of staying at Soneva Kiri in Koh Kood, Thailand, and my life was forever changed. That’s why when I saw that Soneva was opening a property in the Maldives, scheduled to debut this year, I knew it had to be on my list. Located on Medhufaru, a coral reef encircled island with a two-mile lagoon just 30 minutes by seaplane from capital city Malé, Soneva Jani will be home to 57 uber luxurious villas, including 24 overwater villas with one and two bedrooms which will only be reachable by boat. The property will also host 20 one-bedroom Crusoe homes on land plus a choice of 13 three bedroom villas on the beach. #Levels
Anantara Salalah Resort – Salalah, Oman
2015 was all about the United Arab Emirates thanks to a Christmas miracle glitch by Etihad, but 2016 is all about Oman. Scheduled to open in August, Anantara Salalah Resort will be situated between a beach and natural lagoon on the south coast of Dhofar in Salalah, Oman, just a short 15 minute drive from the airport. The resort’s distinct Middle Eastern design, inspired by the region’s iconic coastal fortresses, will comprise of 40 rooms and studios, 8 one bedroom villas and 88 one, two and three bedroom pool villas. Guests will be able to relax at the exotic pool, enjoy a beautiful beach and indulge in Anantara Spa’s luxurious treatments, hammam rituals and male and female wet facilities.
St. Regis Langkawi – Malaysia
With 13 stays at St. Regis properties across the globe under my belt, it’s safe to say that I’m a #StRegisKindaGirl. The brand’s bespoke, personalized luxury is renowned the world over and now you can experience their discerning style in Pulau Langkawi, Malaysia at their newest location, the St. Regis Langkawi.
The St Regis Langkawi is nestled in an idyllic cove a 20-minute drive from Langkawi International Airport. The resort features 85 suites and 3 overwater villas, each boasting a spectacular view of the Straits of Malacca, signature St. Regis Butler service designed to anticipate your every need, enchanting selections from the resort’s five dining venues, 24-hour in-room dining service and more.
In case you need a little city mixed in with your beach life, The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur is also opening in April, giving luxury lovers the best of both worlds.
From their sleek, yet minimalist luxury designs to their commitment to invigorating the mind, body and spirit of guests with each stay, Aman resorts is definitely one of my favorite luxury hotel brands, without question. One of the other reasons I love Aman is that unlike their peers, Aman is is known for establishing luxury properties in little-known corners of the world, creating new hot spots in the process. Such is the case with their latest endeavor, Amanemu.
Set to open in March, the brand’s second Japanese destination will will certainly place the surrounding Ise-Shima National Park, about 185 miles southwest of Tokyo, on your travel radar. Amanemu offers 24 ryokan-style suites and three two-bedroom villas, each featuring a private onsen hot-spring bath and breathtaking views of Ago Bay.
